Pass the gravy and warm up with a good-old-fashioned roast dinner at these local pubs. Will it be crispy pork and crackling, hearty beef and Yorkies or chicken with all the trimmings?

Naughtons Hotel

This historic 150-year-old pub is the perfect setting for an old-school roast. Head to Naughtons in Parkville every Sunday for the roast of the day, loaded with all the trimmings. It might be crackling-lined pork belly, roasted pork shoulder or a generous serve of expertly cooked beef. But Naughtons always gets it right. Knock back a few wines and fight off the Sunday scaries with live acoustic music sets from 4pm. It’s available from midday until sold out.

Brick Lane Market

Enjoy a Sunday roast in a brewery attached to one of Melbourne's oldest markets. Brick Lane Market is serving $28 Sunday roasts to usher in the start of winter. The menu features a rotating selection of meats throughout the season, including beer can chicken! Add on $2.50 oysters and $9 pints for a tasty Sunday treat.

Captain Melville

Sunday roast by way of Italy. Captain Melville is firing up the ovens and slow roasting porchetta each Sunday. Sides include roast baby turnips and carrots, duck fat potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a cider gravy. With the option to add on $7 glasses of mulled cider, it's winter at its finest.

The General Assembly

If you're a fan of live acoustic music and waterfront views, head to The General Assembly every Sunday from 12pm. $28 gets you a classic beef or chicken roast with all the trimmings, including a giant Yorkshire pudding to load up with gravy. Meat and three veg never looked so good! Stick around for live music from 2pm.

Jimmy Watson’s

Legendary wine bar and restaurant Jimmy Watson's has been doing its thing on Lygon Street since 1935. It’s got a quirky European bar vibe complete with Italian food, but on Sundays you’re in for a classic warming roast. Order a red and enjoy it in the restaurant or out in the courtyard. Keep your eye on the A-frame blackboard out front to find out the roast of the week.

The Lincoln

Tucking into a warming roast by the fireplace at The Lincoln is one of winter’s little pleasures. The pub’s focus on locally-sourced produce and refined gastropub fare attracts a regular crowd on Sundays. Boasting a rotating menu of free-range pork and crackling, grass-fed lamb and beef, it’s a true Melbourne icon. $34 gets you all the trimmings including roast potatoes, seasonal veg, a Yorkie and extra gravy. Available from 12pm until sold out, book ahead to guarantee your spot

The Sherlock Holmes Inn

At The Sherlock Holmes Inn, the menu takes liberties with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legacy. Roast is on the ‘Baker Street regulars’ menu every day, and it might just be Melbourne’s cheapest! For a mere $22.90 the roast of the day comes with golden chats, seasonal veggies and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding. To find your way to this convivial British inn, follow the stairs down to the Collins Street basement.

Green Man's Arms

Score a spot by the open fireplace and tuck into a legit tasting vegan Sunday roast at Green Man's Arms. The cosy all-veg pub does a hearty nut roast that will satisfy carnivores too. It's made with lentils, nuts and mushrooms and comes with all your classic roast sides. Think hasselback potato, peas with mint jelly and a gravy-soaked Yorkshire pudding. Got gluten-free pals? Just leave off the Yorkie and it's coeliac friendly!

Lollo

Elevate your Sunday roast with Lollo's weekly seasonal feast. Indulge in a three-course spread with a glass of wine or sparkling for $50. The roast changes weekly, perhaps rosemary roasted lamb leg, or lion's mane mushrooms for the vegos. It comes with potatoes, veg and gravy. Plus, a starter and a decadent chocolate brownie to finish.

The Wharf Hotel

Like your Sunday Roast riverside? Head to Docklands pub The Wharf Hotel. With rotating meat and vegetarian options every weekend, there's something for everyone. Expect all the trimming, including extra-large Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Available from midday till sold out.
