Commercial car parks

In central Melbourne, you're never more than 200m from a supervised, commercial car park. There are 140 commercial car parks and most offer short-and long-stay deals, early bird specials and disabled access. 

The City of Melbourne also owns two car parks, with rates slightly below commercial rates: 

  • Council House Car Park (CBD) 

  • Elgin Street Car Park (Carlton)

Parking near major attractions 

Parking for larger vehicles (caravans and campervans)

Street parking 

There is no specialised on-street parking for caravans or vans in the city. If you choose to park on the street: 

  • Road rules require the vehicle to be parked completely within a parking bay. 

  • If vehicles is too long or too wide, the vehicle must be parked within the minimum number of parking bays. 

  • If vehicles are attached to each other, you only need to pay for one parking meter. 

  • If vehicles are detached or separated, then a parking fee must be paid for both. 

Please note, it is prohibited to sleep or live in parked vehicles as per Council by-law covering camping in public places. 

Commercial car parks 

These Carepark locations have no height restrictions: 

  • Queen Victoria Market, corner of Franklin and Queen streets, Melbourne 

  • 338-360 Dudley Street, West Melbourne 

These Wilson Parking locations have no height restrictions: 

  • Digital Harbour, Corner Harbour Esplanade and Dudley Street, Docklands 

  • Freeway Carpark, Munro Street, South Melbourne (under Westgate Freeway) 

These Ace Parking locations have no height restrictions: 

  • 127 Kavanagh Street, Southbank 

  • 3 Meaden Street, Southbank 

These Secure Parking locations have a height restriction of 2.1 metres: 

  • The Strand, 250 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne (enter from 323 Lonsdale Street) 

  • 23 Queens Road, Melbourne (enter from Queens Lane) 

  • 50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne 

Street parking

On-street parking is available throughout the municipality, with 3000 marked parking bays in the central city. Parking restrictions are in operation to help make these car parking spaces more readily available for shoppers, visitors and residents.
