If you’re visiting the City of Melbourne we always recommend using sustainable transport, but if you have to drive, the following information will help you plan your trip.

With more than 70,000 car spaces in central Melbourne, both on and off-street, parking in the city is quick, easy and safe. Plan ahead and get the best rate by pre-booking your off-street parking online.

Commercial car parks

In central Melbourne, you're never more than 200m from a supervised, commercial car park. More than 130 commercial car parks supply 68,000 off-street spaces for public parking, and most offer short-and long-stay deals, early bird specials and disability access. Parking off-street means you’re close to major attractions, your car is safely undercover, and you don’t have to worry about kerbside time limits.

To view our interactive map of commercial car parks and find out about Council operated car parks with rates slightly below commercial rates, see Off-street parking

Street parking

Kerbside parking is available throughout the municipality, with around 3,000 marked parking bays in the central city.

Parking is limited to two hours (2P) in the CBD and other busy areas – longer parking time limits are available outside the central city and in off-street car parks. Kerbside parking is in high demand in our capital city, so parking restrictions help to make these spaces more readily available for shoppers, visitors and residents. For more information, see Kerbside parking and fees

You can also find more information about motorcycle parking, parking for buses and coaches and parking for larger vehicles (like caravans and campervans).
