Looking for festive fun off the beaten track? These laneway street parties, free workshops, pop-up events and novelty singalongs are calling.

Catch a free screening of The Grinch

Cross your fingers for fine December weather and settle in on the lawn by Dukes Walk for an evening of free family fun. A pop-up Christmas choir will regale you with glorious tunes. Then after sunset this cult-classic Christmas flick will play across the big screen. Go for pre- or post-viewing refreshments at neighbouring Common Man or The Boatbuilders Yard.

Join the world's biggest Gravy Day singalong

Get in before they ring the last bell and join an epic flash-mob style choir at Fed Square. The team from Melbourne Indie Voices will teach the crowd how to hit all the right notes (or at least remember the words). Then belt out this bittersweet banger all together, with Ella Hooper at the helm for the final rendition.
