From 25 November

From Santa's workshop to the 16-metre high LED tree, there's plenty to love at Christmas Square. Wander through endless glittering decorations day and night, starting 25 November. Santa arrives from 26 November, for happy snaps in his gingerbread-loaded, candy cane palace. Then see projections splashed across Melbourne Town Hall and along Flinders Street.

Skate at a festive pop-up roller rink

10 to 24 December

Wander through the lush greenery of Argyle Square to find a pop-up roller rink at Piazza Italia. Spin around to the score of classic tunes, enjoy roving performers and snack on Italian Christmas biscuits. Then head down Lygon Street for the best festive dining in town. Bookings are recommended, entry is free, and skate hire is just $5!

Take a yuletide thrill ride at the Christmas carnival

14 to 23 December

Enjoy festive thrills on the banks of the Yarra at the Christmas Carnival. Ride the ferris wheel, drive the dodgems or get the best view of the city lights as you spin 35 meters in the air on top of the Sky Flyer. Try your luck at much-loved carnival games and complete the experience with classic carnival food. Entry is free, rides are ticketed.

Visit the Myer Christmas Windows

6 November to 25 December

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to Bourke Street Mall to see the iconic Myer windows. Now in its 67th year, the 2022 display is a glorious journey of blockbuster proportions. See iconic characters from your fave Disney movies reimagined as magical window displays. Venture further inside to enjoy a free pop-up Disney maze and a fun Santaland Express ride!

Weekly from 5 to 19 December

Venture out under the starry lights of one of Melbourne’s favourite laneways for a special night market series. Bring the family or meet up with friends as you meander the open-air laneway. Tick off all your gift shopping and pick up locally-made Christmas trinkets. Don’t skip the street food stalls and summer bevs from the pop-up bar.

Snap an augmented reality Elfie Selfie

25 November to 25 December

Unlock a magical land of elfish mystery when you snap an AR photo with these cheeky characters. Find Merry on the corner of Swanston and Little Collins Street, Jingles in Bourke Street Mall and Jolly at Southbank. Then share an animated Christmas card with all your friends. 

Enter an epic Christmas maze

26 November to 24 December

Catch a free screening of The Grinch

18 December

Cross your fingers for fine December weather and settle in on the lawn by Dukes Walk for an evening of free family fun. A pop-up Christmas choir will regale you with glorious tunes. Then after sunset this cult-classic Christmas flick will play across the big screen. Go for pre- or post-viewing refreshments at neighbouring Common Man or The Boatbuilders Yard.

Kick on for eight days of Christmas

19 to 26 December

Melbourne’s original container bar is holding its own epic Christmas celebration. Over eight days Section 8 will be hosting music, art and pop-up workshops for in their iconic laneway location. And yes, the Christmas Day orphan’s barbecue is back too. Spend the day or head down with your crew after Christmas lunch.

Head to Seoul at a festive street food party

18 December

From bibimbap to tteokbokki, try it all at a pop-up street food sensation in Melbourne's unofficial Koreatown (the corner of Little Lonsdale Street and Healey's Lane). Think market stalls, music and fun decorations.

Join the world's biggest Gravy Day singalong

21 December

Get in before they ring the last bell and join an epic flash-mob style choir at Fed Square. The team from Melbourne Indie Voices will teach the crowd how to hit all the right notes (or at least remember the words). Then belt out this bittersweet banger all together, with Ella Hooper at the helm for the final rendition.

18 December

Think you know Lonsdale Street? Think again. Two hidden laneways off the main drag (Waratah Place and Heffernan Lane) will be transformed into a one-day outdoor Christmas party in December. Bring your fam for music, live performance and fun giveaways.
