Pop-up and outdoor cinemas in Melbourne
Catch a flick on a rooftop, in a garden or even inside a carpark. Our movie-loving city has outdoor cinemas to satisfy all tastes.
Embla Rooftop Bar and Cinema
Head to the rooftop of award-winning Embla for casual drinks and snacks and a sunset movie. Their program includes Pretty in Pink, Risky Business, Amerlie and more. Alight the stairs, grab a spritz and enjoy.
Free Movies at Fed Square
Perch under billowing sunshades, relax on the new (eco-friendly) astroturf and enjoy Fed Square's packed season of free movies. Think flicks like The Karate Kid, Labyrinth, The Castle, Red Dog and more. Feeling hungry? Chocolate Buddha, Transport, Mama's Canteen and Time Out are all offering delivery inside the square.
Moonlight Cinema
This ever-popular experience in the Royal Botanic Gardens is back. Get your picnic and rug ready for films like Back to the Future and Promising Young Woman. There’s a licensed bar, candy bar and food trucks on-site too. Even better? You can bring your dog!
ACMI's outdoor silent film series
A series of striking silent films curated by ACMI, Australia's national museum of screen culture, will take over Fed Square's outdoor screen once a month until April, with live scores played by local musicians. Head down to meet Sherlock Jr, be mesmerised by Metropolis and pretend to understand Dr Plonk. Each session is completely free to attend, kicking off with The Adventures of Prince Achmed with Phillip Johnston.
Topless Cinema
Rooftop Cinema has been reimagined as a walk-up drive-in spectacular at the MPAV Parkade. Catch cult faves like Edward Scissorhands alongside edgy arthouse flicks in the heart of the city.
