Remembering 'Sep' Kelly

  • Film
  • Music

Join for a special afternoon celebrating the extraordinary life and music of 'Sep' Kelly – composer, pianist and Olympic gold medallist, whose life was cut short on the battlefields of the Somme 110 years ago.

A gifted musician and decorated wartime officer, Kelly left behind a remarkable body of work and a story of extraordinary achievement, friendship and loss. This event brings his story and music back to the stage.

The afternoon begins with the launch of 'To Gallipoli and the Somme: F.S. Kelly; War Hero, Olympic Champion and Pianist Composer', the new biography by Dr Therese Radic and Martin Cross.

This will be followed by a screening of the award-winning documentary Elegy, which explores Kelly’s musical tribute to his friend and fellow officer, the British poet Rupert Brooke.

The event concludes with a performance by acclaimed pianists Edward and Stephanie Neeman, featuring several of Kelly’s works, interwoven with readings from his wartime diary by Carrillo Gantner AC.
