Little ones are covered too, with kids’ flicks, school‑holiday workshops, hands‑on experiences and educational programs. Entry is free for all ages, with tickets only needed for films and select exhibitions.
Birrarung Marr Playground
The Birrarung Marr Playground next to ArtPlay is a great place for kids to have fun and burn energy. This colourful playground just below ACMI on the banks of the Yarra has bright murals that spark imagination. Kids who love a challenge can try the rock and rope climbing areas. Or they can stick to the regular favourites like slides, sandpits, hammocks and balance beams. There’s also a wheelchair‑accessible swing so everyone can join in.
Shanghai Street
After all that climbing, sliding and exploring, the kids will definitely be hungry. It's the perfect time to grab something quick, tasty and kid‑approved. Julia suggests stopping by Shanghai Street Dumplings. to recharge for your next city stop.
LEGO Certified Store
With full bellies and new energy, it’s time for the kids to make a very important choice - how to spend a bit of their pocket money! The LEGO® Certified Store, the biggest in the southern hemisphere, is full of exciting things to explore. There are rare sets, huge LEGO builds of Melbourne landmarks, and lots of colourful displays. There’s even a Mosaic Maker where kids can create a LEGO portrait of themselves. It’s the perfect place for each child to pick a small treasure and feel in charge of their own city adventure.
Pidapipo Gelateria
Julia's last pit stop for the day is Pidapipo Gelateria on Degraves Street, where the kids get to choose a sweet treat. It’s always fun watching them decide. Will they pick a favourite like the Nutella Swirl, or try something new like this month’s Fig Cream? Choosing is half the excitement!
Family Tips - Getting Around
