ACMI

First up is something BIG for the kids - a trip to ACMI, home to some of the most interactive fun in the city. Dive into worlds of film, TV, videogames and art. Little ones are covered too, with kids’ flicks, school‑holiday workshops, hands‑on experiences and educational programs. Entry is free for all ages, with tickets only needed for films and select exhibitions.

Birrarung Marr Playground

The Birrarung Marr Playground next to ArtPlay is a great place for kids to have fun and burn energy. This colourful playground just below ACMI on the banks of the Yarra has bright murals that spark imagination. Kids who love a challenge can try the rock and rope climbing areas. Or they can stick to the regular favourites like slides, sandpits, hammocks and balance beams. There’s also a wheelchair‑accessible swing so everyone can join in.

LEGO Certified Store

With full bellies and new energy, it’s time for the kids to make a very important choice - how to spend a bit of their pocket money! The LEGO® Certified Store, the biggest in the southern hemisphere, is full of exciting things to explore. There are rare sets, huge LEGO builds of Melbourne landmarks, and lots of colourful displays. There’s even a Mosaic Maker where kids can create a LEGO portrait of themselves. It’s the perfect place for each child to pick a small treasure and feel in charge of their own city adventure.

Pidapipo Gelateria

Julia's last pit stop for the day is Pidapipo Gelateria on Degraves Street, where the kids get to choose a sweet treat. It’s always fun watching them decide. Will they pick a favourite like the Nutella Swirl, or try something new like this month’s Fig Cream? Choosing is half the excitement!

Family Tips - Getting Around

Getting into the city is now easier and more family‑friendly than ever, with free public transport for all kids under 18 using a Youth myki. Or if you’d rather drive, pre-book parking to get even cheaper rates.

Once you're in the city, the Free Tram Zone makes moving between major attractions effortless, with no need to tap on or off when travelling within the CBD. If you need a quiet space to regroup, visit one of a nearby secret gardens or green space for some fresh air.
