What's trending for spring 2025?

Polka dots

We’re spotting this whimsical print everywhere! Sheer, asymmetric and covered in polka dots, Bianca Spender’s spotty range of tops, skirts and dresses ticks all our boxes. Find it at David Jones. Cover yourself in cute neutral polka dots with this boxy linen shirt from Indigo. The print also comes in a collared knit, if your style swings more towards vintage-inspired pieces. Or check out Et Al’s statement gold range. It's a nod to Yayoi Kusama’s art.

Oversized accessories

Big is better when it comes to accessories. Stash away your tiny sunnies, the silhouette for spring is an oversized aviator. Like Ganni’s Antonio pair in a tortoiseshell frame. Find them at Emporium. Swap your dainty jewellery for chunky pieces like Elk’s mixed metal Dalen bangles. Stack gold and silver sculptural styles up your arm for maximum impact. Dinosaur Designs do resin bangles in every colour under the sun. Or pick up an eye-catching bead necklace that Marge Simpson would approve of. Like the barrel necklace from Husk. It's made right here in Melbourne with semi-precious stones like amber and emerald.

Layered pants and skirts

Make your separates work harder by pairing them in unexpected ways. The proportions of a micro-mini work perfectly for this trend. Kahe in Curtin House uses the same suiting fabric for its tailored skirts and pants, they’re literally made for each other. A bit daunted about pulling this one off? The Crosby pant from Saloon Store (also in Curtin House!) comes pre-layered to make it easy to execute. Or wrap a scarf around your waist. Tied asymmetrically, it’ll give a chic holiday vibe. Find rare vintage scarves in-store at Kinki Gerlinki. Or grab one of Ngali’s soft and earthy silk scarves. Each one is printed with designs from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

Bold prints

Polka dots aren’t the only starring print this season. Leopard print is so back (if it ever left!) Pull on a pair of the echo pants from Kuwaii for a fun animal moment. They have a subtle barrel leg and comfy elastic waist. Stripes are always a good idea and Búl’s yarn-dyed Frenja dress will see you right through to summer. Layer it up now with a denim overshirt. The brand also has a checked mini with the most adorable puffy sleeves. For a special occasion you can’t look past Alemais. The large-scale daisy print is a no brainer for spring. It’s exclusive to David Jones.

Sheer lace

Delicate and whimsical, lace gets a dash of edge when you keep it sheer. Bec & Bridge’s Amelie skirt is divine in ivory with an asymmetric hem. It’s designed to be worn on the low waist and it’s just the right amount of see-through. Oroton’s stunning poppy lace collection comes in every style, from bralettes to shirts and tailored shorts. Mix and match the large floral lace pieces for a romantic look. Find both in Emporium. Vintage lovers should visit American Rag, where lace dresses from the ‘50s and ‘60s are in high supply. Bare some skin with the high-necked Meena top, available at Incu. Show off your favourite bra, or layer it over a slip dress.

Pastels

Butter yellow continues to reign supreme this spring. Try a matching set in the colour of the season from Nude Lucy at Melbourne Central. Or lean into other sorbet shades like ballerina pink and ice blue. Both are well-represented in Assembly Label’s range of premium staples. Think breezy shirts, linen slip dresses and silk skirts. Find Assembly Label at QV Melbourne. Go pastel head-to-toe with a pair of baby blue shoes from Bared. Will it be studded slingbacks or sweet leather ballet flats?

Green army jackets

The khaki jacket that had a hold on us all through the 2010s is back. Keep it close to the original vision with Superdry’s M65 jacket. It even has the drawstring waist! For a barn coat style with a cute faux leather collar, visit Anine Bing at QV Melbourne. Or put a very-2025 upgrade on the look with a Ganni’s cropped duchesse jacket. The detachable frilly collar and gathered sleeves are the perfect antidote to the military tailoring.

Retro running shorts

Sports shorts aren’t just for the track. We’ve been seeing the quintessential Adidas three-stripe all over our feeds. Go straight to the source with a bright coloured pair of baggy sprinter shorts. Or shop reworked vintage styles. RetroStar has a stacked range of original Adidas sportswear from crop tops to track skirts. But don’t veer too far into activewear. Instead, elevate them with a crisp shirt and loafers or ballet flats to keep it sporty luxe.

Barrel leg jeans

If you’re intrigued by the barrel leg trend, head to beloved Melbourne label, Alpha60. The Ellie jeans have an oversized cocoon silhouette. Viktoria & Woods does a very chic pair in white. Or mix it up with a dash of Western edge at Levi's in Melbourne Central. The saddle back jeans come in a baggy dad fit. And while this shape may be everywhere right now, the two-tone denim and angled yoke style is one-of-a-kind. Wear your new pair with double denim up top for bonus cool points.
