The Poetic Journey with Jennifer Compton

  • Workshop
  • Events

Poet Jennifer Compton help you with next step for your work and poetic journey in this three-hour workshop. No matter where you are on your poetic journey, there’s always the next step.

Outline the next steps for your poetic work in a safe and nurturing space. Please bring one or two poems you’d like to workshop with the class as well as pen and paper to participate in the writing exercises.

Tutor Jennifer Compton has been in the poetry game for a very long time, indeed ever since she sold her first poem at the age of 14 for five pounds seven shillings and sixpence. In 2013 her poem ‘Now You Shall Know’ won the Newcastle Poetry Prize. In 2025 she is a co-judge of that very same prize with up-and-coming Sydney poet Eunice Andrada.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
