Magic and Medicine: Rituals of Wellbeing

  • Talk
  • Workshop

Discover the sensorial world of ancient Greek magic and medicine in this relaxing morning masterclass.

Your experience begins with a short guided tour of the Rituals: Gifts for the Gods international exhibition, led by a Hellenic Museum historian. Discover how the ancient Greeks used particular plants, lotions, scents and spells to care for both body and mind. Learn which flowers were gathered for healing, why messages were inscribed on lead tablets, how worshippers slept in sacred temples, and other ways they would ward off illness and heal injuries.

Then settle into the workshop space with a soothing cup of traditional Greek mountain tea, where you'll be guided step-by-step to blend your own ritual wellbeing product, using ingredients from the ancient Mediterranean world.

Come away with a handmade creation to take home, along with a workshop handbook featuring the ingredients and recipes used in the session.
