In the 19th century, North Melbourne housed an unusually high number of Irish immigrants, each with their own story. To celebrate St Patrick’s Day 2026, Dr Fiona Gatt will deliver a special talk to highlight and unravel the collective history of Irish immigrants in North Melbourne, including the stories of some well- and lesser-known individuals.
Dr Fiona Gatt has worked on commissioned histories for significant organisations and has taught history at Deakin and La Trobe universities. Fiona is currently a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (remotely) and Senior Research Officer at the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. Her first book, Old North Melbourne, was published by Australian Scholarly Publishing in late 2025.
Bookings open 17 February.
