Convergent Modern Design and Conservation in the Pacific Rim

Warren Andersen will explore California and Perth within the Pacific Rim as a zone of cultural and architectural exchange. His talk will consider how migration, hybridity and local adaptation shaped modernism beyond Europe, producing parallel modernist outcomes across the Pacific – shared in spirit, yet distinctly formed by geography, climate and ways of living. Dr James Lesh shifts the focus to Victoria, exploring the challenges of preserving our modern heritage. He will examine the complex history of protecting post-1945 sites and provide an update on current conservation activities and planning policies.
