Athenaeum Theatre

The Athenaeum Theatre hosts a range of live performances spanning comedy, music and theatre. It is the principal venue for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Melbourne Opera.

The heritage-listed building is the oldest public institution in Victoria, starting life as the city’s first Mechanics Institute in 1839. The Melbourne City Council met in the building until 1852, when the Melbourne Town Hall was built.

The box office is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
