Atsu
Atsu is a Carlton Japanese restaurant built around two things done really well: katsu donburi and kushi skewers. Choose from wagyu, chicken, Otway pork tonkatsu or a changing veggie option, each served crispy over rice as a donburi bowl. Alongside, Atsu offers kushikatsu – Osakan-style fried skewers – one of the only spots in Melbourne doing them.
Highlights include tsukune with shiso, wasabi-topped wagyu skewers, and kingfish tataki to start. Sides like shio kombu cabbage salad balance the richness, while housemade purin (Japanese custard) rounds out the meal.
On the drinks side, highballs lead – classic lemon, nigori, strawberry, and a standout tomato and miso version, all available non-alc. The vibe is casual but considered, with booth seating made for groups who want to linger.
