We The Wild

We the Wild is an award winning garden from the 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show that has been permanently installed at Yanunong Quay on the Docklands Waterfront, transforming a temporary showpiece into a lasting public asset.

We the Wild, designed by Matt York of Ratio Consultants, received the City of Melbourne Award of Excellence Best in Show, a Gold Medal and the Horticultural Media Association Award for Best Use of Plant Life. Delivered with Development Victoria and the City of Melbourne, the project repurposes plant stock from the original installation, extending its life and reducing waste.

Inspired by Victoria’s southern coastline, the garden demonstrates how compact, well designed landscapes can support biodiversity, contribute to urban cooling and enhance everyday public spaces.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
