Experience food, festivals, work and leisure in ancient Pompeii through archaeology and imagination.
A talk by Dr Tamara Lewit (The University of Melbourne) that will take you on a one (Roman) mile walk through the streets of Pompeii in the year 70 CE. Burn incense for the household gods, taste 1st century cucina Italiana, buy a spell from a street magician, hear the shouts of a wedding procession, learn how to paint a fresco, check the time by the sundial in the forum, go bowling at the baths, and celebrate a birthday feast at the cemetery. Slip through time to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a day long ago – inside Pompeii.
Part of the Settimana della cucina italiana nel mondo, organised by Consulate General of Italy, Italian Cultural Institute, ComItEs, Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry & CO.AS.IT.
