Spirit and Place (on Route 66) traces photographer Paul J Ryan’s 1980s–90s journeys across northern Australia, exploring people and landscapes along the once-named National Route 66. Inspired by America’s Route 66, his 100,000 km travels from Rockhampton through the inland reveal an “Other Australia” — its quiet towns, vast horizons and enduring spirit of freedom, belonging and identity.
Head On Photo Festival is one of the largest photo festivals in the world. The Open Program highlights a diverse range of independent, artist-run exhibitions. Selected for their artistic vision and commitment, they form the lively, community-driven core of the festival, honouring the wide-ranging talent that drives the photographic scene beyond the Festival's limited featured program placements.
Opening night will be held on Thursday, 13th November, 6:00pm.
