Come and experience the wonders of our closest star – the Sun – like never before at the historic Melbourne Observatory.

You’ll be expertly guided through safe solar viewing using the beautifully restored four-inch Photoheliograph telescope, as well as solar projection with the Troughton & Simms telescope.

Expect to see incredible details on the surface of the Sun, including sunspots and solar granulation, and discover the rich history of solar astronomy at Melbourne Observatory.

This program aims to educate and inspire, offering a rare glimpse into both the science and history of solar observation. Whether you’re a curious first-timer or a seasoned space enthusiast, this is a daytime astronomy experience not to be missed.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
