Realm: A Group Show

This exhibition marks a phase in the life of an ongoing artistic community Phoenix Arts (formerly Maribyrnong Rivers Edge Art Movement).

The artists in this group show began plein-air drawing several years ago, after the lockdowns, as a means to reconnect. The group chose different venues, mostly around the west, including Williamstown fishing village, old factories on Kensington Road (now gone), Williamstown sailing club, Footscray Arts Centre and cemetery. During winter months they began utilising Newport scout’s hall where a still life could be set up and a fire lit. The themes varied from man-made to natural forms such as masks, toys, instruments, shells, animal skulls, plant forms and others.

The group hope to continue this activity into 2026, revisit some landmarks, explore new ones and with it, prompt artists to build upon their individual body of work with styes ranging from realistic, expressionist to imaginative responses to landscape and still life.
