Project Cultivate BioBlitz: Melbourne General Cemetery

  • Free
  • Talk

Take a walk through the iconic Melbourne General Cemetery for a morning insect BioBlitz.

As part of a guided walk, you’ll get to explore the cemetery’s new native grasslands as part of 'Project Cultivate’. Hear all about what’s been planted by Helen Tuton, Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust Horticulture Assets Manager, and record insects you spot along the walk using iNaturalist. Learn about common insects you might find and how to identify them with insect expert, Peter Rowland from Wildlife & Ecology.

This free event is part of City of Melbourne’s Insect BioBlitz, running from Sunday 1 March to Saturday 7 March. Join for a week dedicated to discovering, documenting and learning about the local critters who call Melbourne home.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
