Chunky Move: Next Move - Sidhu + Ritchie-Jones

  • Dance
  • Entertainment

Chunky Move’s Next Move program returns with an exciting double bill of new works.

In her first solo work, Samakshi Sidhu explores the space between her personal experience and the structures that shape it. Drawing on questions of identity, immigration and belonging, the work becomes an investigation into what it means to live and survive within systems, and what those systems do to a body. Sidhu builds a world where each element carries its own weight. At its centre is a process of undoing: reaching towards an ancient self while navigating a contemporary world.

Shifting between the macro and the micro, a changing sense of scale reshapes the relationship between performers, movement and the audience in the work by Harrison Ritchie-Jones. Tension stretches between the intimate and subtle and the loud and virtuosic, as focus moves across the performance. In conversation with screen projection and objects, the work explores how these elements influence and transform one another.
