  • Two people, the owners of the Original Chai Co, standing on the footpath outside their shop.
  • Containers of chai on display on a table.
  • Chai being poured from a cardboard flask into takeaway cups, resting on grass in a park, with a plate of samosas alongside.

Original Chai Co.

  • Casual dining

The little chai cart that first started at Queen Victoria Market now has a permanent store on Victoria Street.

Made from scratch with real black Assam tea and a spice blend made in Melbourne, free of any sugar or nasties, this is straight up chai the way it's made on the streets of India.

See the pulled chai (dairy or vegan) being made in front of your eyes, absorb the wonderful aroma of spices while you wait or take the chai flask and samosas and head for a picnic in the park.

Their small and select menu includes minced chicken roti wraps, crispy samosas, Mughal style lamb buns, with options for vegetarians as well.

Their mantra is fresher food is naturally tastier and healthier so come and experience this for yourself.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
