Insta-famous jewellery
This brand gained a huge following online for its stunning dainty pieces. Now for the first time, Melburnians can shop this cult-favourite jewellery label in person. Head to Emporium to find the city's first Mejuri store. Browse the glowing space for best-selling hoops, minimalist styles and bespoke nameplate necklaces. The birthstone collection is perfect for gifting to your gem-loving friends.
New location, same beloved bookshop
After 100 years on Bourke Street, Hill of Content has a new home. Moving just a minute's walk up the road, the new digs are every bit as cosy. Since opening in 1922, this cute book nook has offered Melburnians the best local and international page turners. From food to travel, romance, drama and more – there's a book to be found for all discerning readers here. There's even a shelf dedicated entirely to our city!
Underground arcade shops
A little time capsule of '50s Melbourne, Campbell Arcade has been restored to its former glory. Follow the pink tiles down the stairs from Flinders or Degraves Street to find three new hidden stores. Visit Shuh for quirky and colourful gifts from a Melbourne artist. Fossick for vintage at Gikomba Market. This tiny store is packed to the rafters with rare men's fashion. Then make a beeline for the arcade's OG resident, Sticky Institute. Grab a glue stick and make your own zine or browse the shelves for indie publications.
Cult-status streetwear
A new player has entered Melbourne's streetwear scene. Sleek boutique Above the Clouds stocks a huge line-up of name brands, from Nike to Salomon. The futuristic fitout is hard to miss with its open, airy design, reminiscent of the store's name. At night, hues of neon blue radiate from inside and highlight the centrepiece – a massive, circular display of sneakers.
World’s biggest beauty store
MECCA's new flagship store on Bourke Street has already gained iconic status. Once home to the largest bookstore in the world, the stunning pink building is a must-visit. Here you'll find everything from holy grail make-up and skincare brands to flowers and perfume. Book in at the apothecary to get your hair, makeup and manicure done in one sitting. Then swing by the cafe for a Lune croissant.
Rare Korean bags and beauty
Want that Korean it-girl style but don’t know where to find it? Enter Look Seoullite. Located in Melbourne’s Art Deco Mitchell House building, this boutique stocks cult-status Korean labels. Pick up a new work bag from Samo Ondoh, or a cute Stand Oil baguette. The perfumes by Tamburin come in uniquely beautiful bottles. Like the blue hinoki fragrance, tucked inside an egg. Once you’ve finished browsing, visit the in-house nail salon for a manicure.
Italian lucky charms
Step into a slice of Italy in Melbourne at this unique jeweller on Lygon Street. Peachy limewash walls and murals of lemon trees and Italian scenery set the vibe at Bella Luck Charms. Cornicello pendants are the store specialty. Pick up your own lucky charm in traditional red, or bling out with an 18 karat gold variant. Then choose a chain to match or browse more bracelets, necklaces and rosary beads.
Zines and art merch
For art that will make you smile, pop into Berry Park. Part gallery, part shop. This little gem is located in the Nicholas Building, a vertical laneway of creatives and makers. Inside you'll find art prints, zines, tees, tote bags and plenty of trinkets. Pick up a gift for someone who loves all things colourful and curious. Or load up on stickers for your junk journal.
Luxe everyday basics
Who said socks and undies can’t be a little bit fancy? Pairing simple styles with high tech natural fibres, Paire elevates your everyday. Head to the tiny red flagship store in QV Melbourne to browse the range. Think sweat-free antibacterial underwear, merino wool Pilates socks and organic cotton trackies. These socks boast the claim of world’s comfiest, but we’ll let your feet be the judge.
Premium Swiss running shoes
Switch on your new year running routine with a fresh pair of kicks. Australia’s first On store has landed in Emporium. These high performance running shoes were designed in the Swiss Alps. The aim? To feel like you’re running on clouds. Pick up a pair of the cushioned shoes, or refresh your wardrobe with tees and wet weather gear.
Rainbow-bright gumboots
Beloved gumboot label Merry People has opened its first shop in Manchester Lane. This narrow laneway is a mini hub of local shoe brands, with two Bared stores for neighbours. Available in every colour of the rainbow, these comfy boots will take you from muddy puddles to festivals and gardening. Not a gumboot fan? The slip-on Billie clogs are equally comfy. And yes, they do kids sizes too.
