Whistleblower & David McBride: Declassified

Screening as part of The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, this special event showcases works dedicated to whistleblowers and their importance in the world. Come along for a night of beautiful films and gain rare insight into the increasingly hostile treatment of those who strive for transparency in an ever-changing world.

The event open with 'David McBride: Declassified', a documentary by Australian-Zimbabwean director Paul Matereke. The film explores the struggles of Australian whistleblower David McBride, as he faces a life sentence for exposing war crimes committed by Australian SAS Soldiers in Afghanistan.

This is followed by Marc Bauder's 'Whistleblower', a documentary following Africa’s most important whistleblower Jean-Jacques Lumumba. The film examines the immense personal cost of exposing unlawful conduct by powerful institutions, and those who support them in their fight for the truth.
