The Best Films You've Never Seen: Queer Edition

  • Film
  • Entertainment

Come along to The Capitol RMIT for a special Best Films You’ve Never Seen screening celebrating queer cinema history with My Own Private Idaho (1991) and Scorpio Rising (1963).

Gus Van Sant’s haunting road movie, a defining work of New Queer Cinema, stars River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves in one of the most influential LGBTQIA+ films ever made. It is paired with Kenneth Anger’s Scorpio Rising, the ferocious 1963 short whose leather-clad bikers, occult symbolism and pop soundtrack helped shape underground film and the modern music video. The evening opens with an introduction by RMIT academic and guest curator Dr Patrick Kelly, offering insight and context for first-time viewers and devoted fans alike.

Do not miss this rare chance to experience two landmark works of queer cinema together on the big screen for one night only.
