Focus on Giorgio Moroder

  • Film
  • Entertainment

Giorgio Moroder, the composer and record producer dubbed the father of disco, is credited for pioneering electronic dance music. Moroder rose to legendary status as a film composer with a series of iconic soundtracks that dominated the charts and defined an era of popular music and fashion.

The late 1970s and 80s was a defining period for him, winning Oscars for Best Original Score for Midnight Express (1978) and Best Original Song for Flashdance (1983).

This focus season brings together some of his most celebrated works. Films that captured a pivotal moment in popular culture when MTV was king, fashion was everything and music and image were inseparable. Moroder was at the centre of it, driving each one forward, one synth beat at a time.
