Dead Parents Club Premiere

  • Film
  • Art

Screening as part of The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, acclaimed artist-led organisation APHIDS screens a world premiere of their first feature film, Dead Parents Club.

This experimental documentary tracks a unique cohort of Melbourne locals who have experienced parental loss as they attempt to embody famous pop-culture orphans; including Simba, Little Orphan Annie, and Frodo Baggins. Blurring the traditional boundaries between cinema, live performance, and cultural interrogation, the film presents a deeply moving, fiercely intelligent, and sometimes humorous look at private grief.

Building on the thematic success of APHIDS' past performance iteration OH DEER, Dead Parents Club shifts the collective’s signature subversive, cross-disciplinary lens fully onto the cinema screen. Known for challenging rigid power structures and creating radical public work, APHIDS brings a distinct, non-traditional documentary style to this year's Melbourne Documentary Film Festival lineup.
