Amy Cohen: When Time Becomes Space

  • Free
  • Art

As a sculptor the compulsion to create shell forms has been a part of Amy Cohen’s artistic journey for over two decades. Her creative practice centres around the repetitive process of building layers through coiling and knotting which mirrors the ways shells are gradually formed.

As an artist, the act of creation is its own safe space, an environment full of meaning and potential. Shells symbolise protection. They create a separation, a boundary that defines internal and external space, what we reveal or hide from the world around us.

Displaying the body of work in the entrance to the library which is a liminal space by its architectural nature invites the viewer to pause, discover a feeling of safety and experience, of ‘time becoming space’.

The library is closed on public holidays.
