Taxis and ridesharing services make getting around Melbourne easy.

Taxis

Several taxi companies operate within Melbourne and can be flagged at a taxi rank, on the street, or booked using an app or over the phone. While taxis in Melbourne used to be yellow, these days are a variety of colours.

When the dome light is lit up, the taxi is available for hire. Details on the fares are on a sticker inside the taxi. Always ask for a receipt, it will help if you have lost property or wish to provide feedback.

See our interactive map of taxi zone locations where taxis are often parked while waiting for fares.

Ridesharing services

Ridesharing services such as Uber, Ola and Shebah (an all-women rideshare service) can be booked through mobile phone apps and are available throughout Melbourne.

Accessibility

Several taxi companies operate in and around Melbourne providing accessible taxis on request. It is illegal for drivers to refuse to transport people with their assistance animals.
