The Observatory

  • Cafe

With a European menu that shifts with the seasons and an ambience that feels grand and inviting, The Observatory offers indoor dining, alfresco options or grab and go from a friendly kiosk.

Designed to welcome 150 guests indoors and 200 more across a sunny alfresco and leafy back courtyard, this all-day spot blends relaxed dining with stand out food and design.

The menu balances Mediterranean flavour with a uniquely Melbourne energy. Dishes are generous, seasonal and designed to share, from refined brunch staples to wood-fired pizzas and handmade pasta. Enjoy signatures such as The Observatory Plate — a vibrant morning mezze of Grandmother ham, avocado, seasonal pickles, Bay of Fires cheese and chickpea hummus on Chéri-baked focaccia.

Following the success of The Terrace, The Observatory marks Darling Group’s second location within the Royal Botanic Gardens, solidifying its presence in one of Melbourne’s most treasured spaces.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
