Melbourne’s il Mercato Centrale is a hub for everyone who loves, lives and chooses food. Revitalising the city’s historic McPherson’s art-deco building, this is the first il Mercato Centrale outside of its home country of Italy.

At the heart of il Mercato Centrale are 23 food and beverage artisans, carefully chosen for their unique expertise, knowledge, and their deep passion for sharing their craft. All offer ready to eat or take-home meals, prepared fresh daily.

The 3,500 metre square venue spans three levels, creating Melbourne’s most concentrated artisanal food, beverage and cultural hub. The ground level features an immersive market square with open kitchens where customers can closely observe the craftsmanship of the artisans, including a specialty cheesemaker, patisserie, bakery, butcher, and handmade pasta bar. The first level offers casual and fine dining options, with the second level reserved for private events, artisan masterclasses and free community cultural events.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
