English electronic music producer Daniel Avery, with shaggy tousled hair half covering his eyes, looking at the camera, wearing a jacket and seated at a table.

RISING: Daniel Avery

  • Music
  • Entertainment

Avery’s 2013 debut Drone Logic is a riff-driven mix of garage, acid house and techno. Massive enough for the rave, classy enough for the afters.

Since then, he’s lent into ambient exploration, and gone harder into noise, industrial, breakbeats and trance. He’s released an album with Nine Inch Nails synth savant Alessandro Cortini and added a banging track to last year’s Cure remix album – executing it all with his signature ability to mould expressive grandeur from dark dancefloor dynamism.

But before his rise in leftfield club production, Avery was just another teen playing in shoegaze bands, worshipping at the altar of Deftones and My Bloody Valentine. For his 2025 release Tremors, he went back to his roots, sending his distinctive production style through wraithlike guest vocals, textured distortion, and fuzz-buried melody. And he’s got a new live show that’s perfect for a Melbourne Town Hall club takeover.
