MESS in Conversation: Nicole Skeltys

  • Talk
  • Learning

Australian musician and electronic music producer Nicole Skeltys has long explored the futurist ideals of electronic music and their link to modern feminist creative practice. As one half of pioneering electro-femme duo B(if)tek alongside Kate Crawford, she navigated the male-dominated electronic music landscape of the late 1990s with raw, lysergic analogue experiments. She extended this ethos to her solo project Artificial, delving into 'fizzy lo-fi electro-lounge music.'

Since those seminal electronica days, Skeltys has composed a rock opera on late capitalism titled Canary Wharf, earned a Doctorate in Creative Arts from La Trobe University, and continued to investigate sound’s connection to contemporary culture. Thirty years on, the cheek and ingenuity present in her pivotal B(if)tek and Artificial creations remain as vibrant and exploratory as ever.

Nicole will discuss her practice with Prudence Rees-Lee and the community as part of the MESS in Conversation series.
