The sun shines on a perfect spring evening. Nonno tends the garden, Nonne hangs laundry, and before you unfolds a tender scene of sweet love – until it gets silly. Meatballs fly as Nonne recalls the old days, even sharing a Soviet-era pasta defence recipe. Suddenly, you’re in the sweaty 80s as the pair sizzle with Richard Simmons, then Nonno returns from the Body Shop with a Frankenstein physique no one remembers ordering.
Somewhere along the way the show ends and you’re left asking: was that perfectly normal? Yes – because in many countries, the duo you saw are a legally defined heterosexual couple.
It’s Golden Girls meets Monty Python, brought to you by Croatian Burlesque Festival’s Best in Diversity winners: the Hardly Normal, Perfectly Queer cabaret hooligans, Rassputin and Mx Lucy Furr.
