The Francis Effect: Overcoming Barriers between Species and Classes
A lecture by Professor Michele Campopiano (University of Catania), and presented by the Italian Consulate General, the Italian Cultural Institute, Monash University and CO.AS.IT. on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi.
This lecture argues that the environmental and social dimensions of Franciscan thought cannot be understood separately. Francis’s attention to all creatures and to those excluded from civic society formed part of a coherent vision that challenged established economic, social and anthropological hierarchies.
Accompanied by readings performed by Roxana Păun Trifan, actress and theatre professional researcher.
