Spirit Archive: Exhibition

  • Free
  • Art

Created by Alissa Putri as part of SIGNAL Young Creatives Lab 2026, Spirit Archive explores how experiences of loss shape our memories, relationships and sense of cultural belonging.

Developed in collaboration with software developer Joe Fraser, Spirit Archive invites you to anonymously contribute a memory, letter, personal experience or something you’d like to let go of through an interactive writing portal. Your words become part of the installation, projected into the space alongside contributions from others.

As these reflections accumulate, Spirit Archive becomes an evolving collective archive – inviting us to consider what we carry from past connections, what we choose to release, and the experiences we share.

Content note: This installation explores themes of grief, loss, relationships and cultural disconnection.
Sensory note: This installation is presented in a darkened space with dim lighting and projection.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
