A portion of an ancient Roman colonnade at an archaeological site, against a blue sky.
4 – 19 Apr

Mosaic Monuments

  • Family and kids
  • Activity

Discover towering 'ruins' of ancient Rome in the museum foyer where a series of free-standing columns stand as quiet reminders of a grand structure long lost to time.

Help reawaken these ruins by adding colourful, mosaic-inspired designs to their surfaces. Every tile, pattern, and splash of colour contributes to a vibrant, ever-changing artwork created by our community.

Perfect for all ages, this drop-in activity encourages creativity, imagination, and a little hands-on history. Discover the stories of ancient Rome and help transform the museum foyer into a living mosaic of the past, celebrating the launch of Rome: Empire, Power, People – one colourful tile at a time.

Activity included with museum entry.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
