La Trobe’s Cottage, the home of Victoria’s first Lieutenant-Governor, includes Melbourne’s oldest surviving building and parts of a prefabricated building brought to Melbourne by La Trobe in 1839. The cottage was the home of Charles Joseph La Trobe, his Swiss wife Sophie and their children, from 1839 to 1854.

Tour an example of a prefabricated building brought to Melbourne in 1839, and the dining room considered to be Melbourne’s oldest surviving structure.
Please note open on Sunday 26 July only. Tours run frequently as required, with last tour departing 3.30pm. Tour duration 10-15 minutes in groups of 10.
