Free UR Head

  • Family and kids
  • Entertainment

In Free UR Head, 24 people sit side by side, each wearing a headset. Music and visual cues guide you through small, gentle movements, and because every headset is linked in real time, the whole room makes them at the same moment. Nobody has rehearsed and most people have never met, yet the group moves as one.

It's seated and there is nothing to learn beforehand, so kids and adults can take part side by side, including anyone trying VR for the first time.

From outside the headsets, the group looks like a single moving sculpture, and it's free to watch for family members and people walking past (thought to take part, everyone wearing a headset needs a ticket).

Free UR Head was created by Taiwanese director Chou Tung-Yen, whose XR work has twice been selected for the Venice Film Festival, and is produced by Very Theatre. It has its Australian premiere at Melbourne Fringe Festival, as part of Fringe Focus Taiwan.
