Capitol Theatre Orchestra followed by Fiddler on the Roof

Get ready for an unforgettable Saturday at Melbourne's home of famous movies and classic music. The entertainment begins with fifty minutes of genuine 1920s jazz from the Capitol Theatre Orchestra. After a short break, enjoy the classic film Fiddler on the Roof (G ,1971), starring Topol as Tevye and Norma Crane as Golde.

Set in the early twentieth century in the fictional village of Anatevka in Imperial Russia, the film follows Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman, as he struggles to maintain his religious and cultural traditions while his three eldest daughters seek to marry for love. As Tevye navigates the wishes of his daughters, the pressures of modern change, and growing political unrest, he must constantly balance faith, family, and the powerful pull of tradition.

The twelve-piece Capitol Theatre Orchestra was re-established in November 2024 to celebrate the centenary of Walter Burley Griffin’s masterpiece, the Melbourne Capitol.
