Twenty Melbourne Painters Society 108th Annual Exhibition

In 1918, the rebellious founding members of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society (TMPS) stormed out of the Victorian Artists Society (VAS) in protest at Max Meldrum being unseated as VAS president. The TMPS has flourished ever since as a unique body of professional artists. Even today, members can trace their connections to the founding members and the Meldrum School.

Following 2024's Return to Albert St exhibition, the 108th Annual Exhibition showcases the present members’ work in the stunningly renovated VAS Galleries.

One of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious arts organisations occupies a unique position in Australian art in that membership is restricted to 20 and is upon invitation only. Many distinguished artists have been members of the group and contributed to its colourful history. The society maintains a strong commitment to the traditions of realist, tonal and impressionist painting.
