The Grand Tour

  • Free
  • Art

This exhibition explores the rich and complex subject of the Grand Tour, a cultural right-of-passage undertaken by the British upper classes during the 18th century.

Presenting material layered with 500 years of imaginative and myopic visions, the exhibition frames the Grand Tour from a historical perspective and highlights its profound impact on the development of European cultural paradigms and institutions.

The exhibition showcases Terence Lane OAM’s (1946–2024) gift to the University of Melbourne’s Prints and Drawings collection, alongside treasures from the University’s Archives and Special Collections.
