James Tyrrell, of Harper & Charlie, captures Melbourne in a way that connects deeply to the city’s story and our shared memories. Drawing on archival photographs of buildings and places - some long gone but not forgotten - the Melbourne-based illustrator reimagines the city’s evolving landscape in a style reminiscent of vintage travel posters. His works feature beloved icons such as Flinders Street Station, the State Library of Victoria and the neon-lit 'Skipping Girl Vinegar' sign, alongside lesser-known buildings lost to development.
Throughout his career, James has worked with global brands across travel, apparel and large-scale architectural projects, and has been shortlisted multiple times for the AOI World Illustration Awards.
RSVP to attend the opening on Thursday 12 March, with talks with artist James Tyrrell, and historian and author Chris Macheras, of Old Vintage Melbourne, about Melburnians’ great fondness for their city, its heritage and its stories.
Join for a conversation with the artist, free but please RSVP by 6 Mar; 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
