Mabo Day Celebration Concert

  • Free
  • Music

Join for an evening honouring culture, community and the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo, whose courage reshaped Australian history. The Mabo Day Celebration Concert program features live music, authentic Islander food, spoken word, video and a joyful ukulele sing-along.

The evening brings together Torres Strait Islander performers based in Narrm, including MC Leon Filewood, singer Kee’ahn, musician Jessie Lloyd, DJ randals dad and friends.

Koorie Heritage Trust also shares a personal connection to the Mabo decision through founder Ron Castan AM QC, lead counsel for the plaintiffs from 1982 until the landmark High Court judgment in 1992.

Mabo Day, marked annually on 3 June, commemorates Eddie Koiki Mabo’s successful challenge to terra nullius and the decision that paved the way for native title in Australia.

Presented by the Koorie Heritage Trust in partnership with the City of Melbourne and Fed Square.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
