For her fifth solo exhibition with Flinders Lane Gallery, Kathrin Longhurst presents a powerful new body of work shaped by her ongoing engagement with feminism, history and representation. A celebrated Archibald and Portia Geach finalist, Longhurst brings strength and tenderness together, asking how solidarity might reshape inherited narratives of power.
Revisiting the compositional language of historical war painting and propaganda aesthetics, Longhurst replaces traditional male protagonists with women. In these works, the battlefield becomes a metaphor for the political, social and intimate struggles women continue to navigate.
At a time when conflict continues to shape public consciousness across the world, My Hand in Yours offers a quietly powerful counterpoint. These paintings do not glorify violence. Instead, they honour tenderness as a radical act, and solidarity as a sustaining force.
