Il Baule: Carrying Stories of Distance

  • Free
  • Talk

Dr Teresa Capetola gives a talk titled, 'Il Baule: Carrying Stories of Distance Among Post War Second Generation Italian Australian Middle-Aged Women'.

After World War II, over 300,000 Italians settled in Australia. Today over one million Australians claim Italian heritage. As first generation migrants age and pass away, and as the second generation enters middle age, questions arise. What are the legacies of migration and settlement? What distances and proximities do Italian migrant heritages create for their daughters in settler-colonial Australia?

Join Teresa as she explores these questions in her doctoral research and how this work led to the establishment of the multigeneration creative collective Ascolta Women Inc.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
