Forty Years of Design Fringe

  • Free
  • Exhibition

RMIT University and Melbourne Fringe proudly present Forty Years of Design Fringe – a special anniversary exhibition celebrating four decades of experimental and radical design in Melbourne.

From 1986 to 2024, Fringe Furniture (later renamed Design Fringe) invited designers and fabricators at all stages of their careers to exhibit works that challenged conventional approaches to furniture, object, textile and sculpture making.

From creative experiments to iconic objects from some of Melbourne’s leading designers, this anniversary showcase marks a new chapter in the RMIT and Fringe partnership as they reshape the future of Design Fringe, and explore how championing bold and experimental design can inspire new ways of thinking about the world.

Curated by Dr Malte Wagenfeld and Dr Judith Glover, RMIT School of Design

Works by Marta Figueiredo, Bruce Filley, Dowel Jones, Adam Markowitz, Marc Pascal, Sally Thomas and more.

Curator talks on the Saturday and Sunday at 1PM.
