Emerging Artist Award

  • Free
  • Art

The Emerging Artist Award at fortyfivedownstairs is a proven catalyst for ongoing recognition and professional development and allows audiences the privilege of accessing early-career works by exciting emerging artists. Entry is open to anyone in an early stage of their career wishing to submit a work that has not previously been exhibited in another art prize.

A selection of works will be chosen for a two-week exhibition held across the two gallery spaces. A special guest judge will award a $3000 pool of prize money to the two submissions that best align with the award criteria. The People’s Choice Award gives the public the chance to vote for their favourite work.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
