Coinciding with NAIDOC week, the Colour of Time exhibition brings together the oldest continuous culture on earth with one of the most ancient creative practices, glass making, to showcase the work of First Nations glass artists.
This exhibition is a collaborative project between Rickie Gugumah Martin and two not-for-profit organisations, GLAAS Inc (Glass Light Art Architecture Synergies), which promotes and supports the use of glass in art and architecture, and the Melbourne Athenaeum, which commenced in 1839 as the Melbourne Mechanics' Institution and is the city's oldest cultural institution.
This exhibition features the work of artists who have participated in the First Nations Glass Workshop Program initiated by GLAAS Inc in 2022, a free program that provides artists with the opportunity to learn the techniques of glass making while being taught and mentored by First Nations artists.
Supported by the City of Melbourne Creative Arts Grants.
