An evening of celebration and music as Newman College commemorates the 150th anniversary of visionary architect Walter Burley Griffin. Beneath the Newman Dome, enjoy canapes, an exceptional two course dinner, fine wines, and artistic inspiration.
Griffin Illustrated celebrates Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin through music conducted by Professor Sir Jonathan Mills AC and spectacular dome projections by Ian de Gruchy. Originally commissioned for the 1996 Adelaide Festival, Ethereal Eye is an immersive musical tribute to the Griffins’ architectural vision, revised for this performance.
Performers include Synergy Percussion, Jane Edwards (soprano), Nigel Crocker (trombone and conch) and Sir Jonathan Mills (microtonal piano). Recorded for ABC Classics in 1997, the work features specially designed instruments and sound production by a talented creative team.
Celebrate the Griffins’ legacy while supporting the preservation of Newman College’s architectural heritage.
